Daddy's Home-Poetry by Cher

Daddy's Home, Poetry by Cher

Out the front door I stepped

As he pulled into the drive

His face covered full with hair

Like that of Santa's pride.

Who was this man before me?

My father's friend I was sure

I started off to tell him

That my father was not here.

So long gone was he away

To a child it seemed forever

Like a dream that never ended

But soon would get much better

With the puzzled look he gave

As I'm sure I had one too

He opened up his arms and said boy did I miss you!

Just like in a movie

My heart was pounding loudly

The longest foot I ever ran

into the arms of Daddy!

Who Sees?-Poetry by Cher

Who Sees?--Poetry by Cher

Who Sees the seasons changing
Who Sees the Earth thats raging
Who Sees the Fear in our eyes
Who Sees the Babys die

Who Cares what a mess we are in
Who Cares that our is Future glim
Who Cares what we can do
Who Cares , how about you?

Who will step up and save the day, or is much too late already?
Who will stand and see the truth , through Politicians that rule so steady?
Who will open the blinds put infront of our eyes
Who will stop them before we all die?

Why is it always the "little person" who can see
How horrible this world has come to be
With Earthquakes, Tornadoes,  Hurricanes, and death from the Seas
Are we really just numbers? Not Human, Not Hurting
Who Sees, Who Cares, Who will finally fix this mess?

Are we too late?

Tar Balls by Cher

Tar Balls by Cher

Tar Balls, Tar Balls
That's all we hear these days
Oil spewing from beneath
How can we think its safe?

Our Oceans are poisoned by
Big Business Oil
Our Beaches are saturated by
The ones who made it spoil

How can we continue to let these people drill
Off shore is full of unknowns
Will we learn from this spill?

If the powers that be have any say
Our Earth won't stand to stay this way
She will rise up in anger, and strike with a mighty hand
To all that continue to abuse her land

Open your eyes Oh mighty Ones
You must see the death toll coming our way
You must see the horrible pain in our wake

The sadness that looms very close to our heads
Keeps all the little ones up in their beds
Will tomorrow come for these tiny ones
Or will the Mighty Powers close their eyes
And only See Money, the dollar signs that rise
Will they say "oh well, it's not I who will fix this mess"
Then we wait and wonder what comes next!

Earth is telling us! Someone needs to listen!

Pain By Cher at Poetry by Cher

Pain by Cher

Pounding loudly, but no one else can hear
Blinding the eyes, but no one else can see
Banging, Slamming, Sounds so loud they pain
How can you not see what is happening!

Darkness can be a great sight to see
Silence can be the loudest sound to me
Dampness  a cold that feels so good
Sliceing through this mixed up neighbourhood

How pain is so subjective
The doctors cannot know
What truly hurts , what pain is real
They think you put on a show

Pills, oh pills, they are but a bandage
To cover up the symptoms
For now, a cure they cannot manage

The illnesss that cannot be seen
The pain within cannot be relieved
The ones who say, "you hurt yeah right"
To feel it would be cause for fight

If only they could feel what you do
If only they could know just a little
Of how you feel so bad
Then there would be a breakthrough, you can bet on that!

Fight for the things you know
Fight for the one's who don't
Fight for the cure one day
Don't give in, Don't let them stand in the way!

Perfect-Poetry by Cher

Perfect, Poetry by Cher

Perfect not everyone can be
Perfect not the same to you and me
Perfect how can we really know
How Perfect someone is, it’s all show
She sees the daily magazines,
Like an actor studying for a part
She wants to be like them,
She feels it so strong in her heart
And those women on the T.V. screen,
With perfect hair they’re living the dream
The Dream that is masked as the truth,
The dream that she wants to prove
And how the mannequin sings so sweetly
As she passes by the shiny clean windows
Of the stores she cannot afford
She must, she must, she must have more
Her mind feels so cluttered like a dream she cannot awake
She searches everyday to attain the Perfect make
Why wasn’t she born with beauty and Perfect skin
Why can’t her life be like the rest of them
Why should they have it all, why does she feel so small
Perfect not everyone can be
Perfect not the same to you and me
Perfect how can we really know
How Perfect someone is, IT’S ALL SHOW!

Simple Poem By Cher

Simple---Poem by Cher

Simple, what a word
Simple, have you heard
Simple, is the way to go
Simple, who would ever know

Simple, we strive to live
Simple, we teach our kids
Simple, we can't attain
Simple, so much to gain

Simple, how hard can it be?
Simple, to both you and me
Simple, if we only could
Simple, but we really should

Why can't we live Simple lives
like when we were kids
Why does life speed up so
Why does life have to go

So fast it seems to speed and slip
If it were Simple
We could enjoy the trip

As I try to Sleep-Poetry by Cher

As try to Sleep

Late at night I see the pictures
I see them as a movie
They move faster and faster
As I try to sleep

I try to slow them down as they speed past
They won't stop they tortue me
Pictures of what was, what could be, and what might
They taunt me As I try to sleep

The pictures find their way in
I always wonder how
They spin around , they move about
I try to grab on but
They move at me As I try to sleep

The pictures make me worry
The pictures make me sad
They make me wonder, but never glad
They fly at me As I try to sleep

Sleep comes and then goes
My worries are strong and so vivid
I wake with the Pictures in my Head
Then do it again As I try to sleep

Music is Poetry by Cher

Poetry by Cher

Song lyrics are poems put to music. Most lyrics come in a poetic way, put them to music and you have a hit, if not, you have a great poem !

Check out Family Portrait by Pink, beautiful and tortured song, but what a poem!

What is Poetry/Poetry by Cher

What is Poetry/Poetry by Cher

Poetry is something different to everyone! Some people like poems to rhyme as I do, some like them to be deep and make you think, some just enjoy the rythmic movement of the words on the page! There are many different ways of writing and enjoying a poem. Some are short, some are long, some haiku's are beautiful and only a few lines long. What ever way you like your poetry, know that none is wrong. If you like it, if you express your feelings and you feel better for it. You can't be wrong.

Write your own poem, try it today, see how you feel afterwards!

Poetry by Cher-Such is Life

Such is Life (Poetry by Cher)
To my children, Nate, Ellie, Stevie
Such is Life, that is to be
How we live, it, you and me
To be kind and happy , is how it should go
To help one another and all join the show
Such is Life, that we struggle in vain
Everyday we see such horrible things
All around us is hate, greed and pain
Why does this world prey on such things
Such is Life, that we don't often see
How really wonderful it could be
Just to open our eyes, to seize the day
To enjoy the miracle of life in our wake
Such is Life, that if we don't stop
All the fighting, killings, guns that go pop
We may not be one day, how sad that would be
To lose this wonderous world full of glee
Such is Life, that to live is the greatest gift of all
Let's get together, don't drop the ball
Peace to our children and theirs one and all.

911 REMEMBERANCE BY CHER

THE DARKEST DAY
TO NEW YORK CITY
The greatest tragedy of all
Was watching the towers fall On 911 was the day
When the planes crashed into world trade
The world was sent into mourning
As thousands of lives fell to dust
Sad and angry we're we that
Someone could do this to us
War they say was declared Retaliation was the words of The heads of our country
That osama bin landin must pay
We still we wait this day
With hope that some are still living
At the bottom of the rubble so deep
Oh how new york city does weep
Be careful are my words to thee
For more we're involved than we can see
Pray for peace in this world
Love all people, boys and girls

......Written for the World Trade Center Disaster, so much has changed since then, so much still the same........IN REMEMBERANCE OF THOSE LOST THAT DAY!

MICHAEL JACKSON 1958/2009 R.I.P. by Cher reposted

Michael Jackson 1958/2009 R.I.P. (re posted by request)
Never allowed to be a kid
Never allowed to be a child
Never allowed to be a man
Never allowed to be un hid
He sang the songs the world will never forget
He danced the dances we had never before seen
He wowed the world with his endless talent
He suffered alone trying to fill a need.
A need to be loved , and a need to care
A need to be hugged, but no one was there
A need to be him, but was never to be Michael Jackson wanted to be , just be....
The pain in his lyrics will live forever on
Listen to the words and hear his pain full song
He cryed out for help, and no one came through
He wanted to love, but to his self couldn't be true.
The great King of Pop, is gone but not in our hearts
As the Cd's , videos and all stuff him will be carted
To our homes, libraries and places to remember him well
Now in death they will sell sell sell
I hope the world can see what we've done
To a boy, a man, a person who wanted to belong
He may have been rich, but what we don't see
Is how poor, sad in life he really could be.

The Vent & the Piano By Cher a short story

The Vent & the Piano By Cher a short story

As a young girl many of my fondest memories were centered around my mothers piano. It was a Heintzman upright piano, very large both in stature and sound. In the house we lived, the piano was kept in a dining room which was converted into a music room because we didn't have a dining room furniture. The music room was directly below my Mother's bedroom, the bedroom and the music room were also connected by a vent which heated both rooms at the same time. The cover on the vent in my mother's room was made of gold painted cast iron, with big holes in it to let the heat flow and made it perfect for looking through.

My Mother was quite an accomplished pianist and my brother and I loved to listen to her play. She played everything from Bach to Ragtime, and all of it was music to our ears. We would sit beside her and sing along with familiar songs, and we would try to play, ourselves, after Mom was done. Most of the time we were just "pounding" as my Mother would have called it, but after time & practice we learned to play songs that actually sounded like songs.

As in every family i'm sure, bedtime had to come sooner or later and my brother and I would go upstairs and lay there in our beds, waiting to hear the creek of the piano bench as my Mother would sit down to play her evening winding down music. Slowly we would climb out of our beds, crawl towards the vent in Mom's room, because walking would tip her off that we were awake, and then lay down on the floor in just the perfect position to get a a good view of where my Mother was, then listen. I remember how loud or how soft a certain song would be played, or how much emotion she poured into a piece, and to hear that same song today brings a warm feeling to my heart. We would listen for hours to the awesome music that filtered up through the vent to comfort us until she stopped. We would then sneak back to our beds and dream of the music that filled our souls on those evenings.

Today the piano sits in my makeshift music room, which has a connecting vent that leads up into my bedroom. My children's bedrooms surround mine and sometimes when they are in bed, I play like she did so many years ago. I'm not as accomplished as she, but I do enjoy the quiet time, and I now know how very relaxing it its to play as much as it was to listen.

Every now and then I hear the floor upstairs creaking while I play, and I wonder how many little eyes are peering at me, who should be in their beds, but I don't stop.......I wouldn't dare stop!

Poetry by Cher, writing tips

Poem writing tips
A poem is one of the most personal forms of written expression. A poem is without . It should be open, honest, and accessible to the reader. If you have been bitten by the poetry bug. Write poems—lots of them. Write as many as possible, good or bad, then pick the ones you absolutely love and look at a way to get them published. Chapter books are a good start...(see blog on chap books.)

Learn the fundamentals of poetry. Don’t limit your study to reading published poems. That’s like looking at a car on the showroom floor to learn how the engine is designed. Look under the hood. Read books on the subject. Practice a variety of styles and forms. Most of all , keep it yours. Keep your style, your feel and your form.
Write from your own experiences, your own visions, your own thoughts. What you love, what loves you, when you are sad, when you are angry, happy, all the emotions that hit us in the gut.
Then write, write what you feel. You can form your poem however you like, you can write and rewrite it, the more you write, the faster you will see it suddenly form and come to life.
Finally...............enjoy what you are doing, if poetry is not a passion, but frustrates you, try something else, it may not be for you. If you love it, continue on, you will be successful!
Happy writing!

POETRY SCAMMING?

Has Poetry.com stopped scamming?

For a long time, I thought of the International Library of Poetry and its online - Poetry.com scamming would-be poets by advertising big cash prizes, then accepting everything submitted to them as “high quality” work, and asking the poets to purchase the book-sized volumes with their poetry at a high price. Now, Watermark Media Group, the original owner of the Poetry.com domain, has gone out of business, and the domain name has been sold to Lulu.com, the big online print-on-demand self-publishing site.

from Publishers Weekly:
Lulu.com Launches Lulu Poetry, Introduces Contest,” by Lynn Andriani“Self-publishing site Lulu has launched a Poetry site, www.Poetry.com, where users can connect with other poets and digitally publish their own verse at no cost. The site resembles Lulu.com in that it is targeted toward writers who want to connect with their peers and have access to resources to receive reviews and feedback on their work.”
Lulu Poetry Separate from Former Scam Site,” by Lynn Andriani“When self-publishing site Lulu announced earlier this week that it had launched a Poetry site at www.Poetry.com, some confusion ensued. That’s because before Lulu bought the domain Poetry.com, it was owned by Watermark Media, which had operated a “contest” on the site that was largely regarded by the online poetry community as a scam.”
Will Lulu Poetry be any better than the original Poetry.com? It’s still vanity publishing, but at least Lulu appears to be upfront about what they do.

Required reading before you submit to any contests:
How to put together a poetry manuscript for publication
What’s Really Wrong with Poetry Book Contests?,” by David Alpaugh
Is Poetry Contest Publication Worth It?A Word To the Wise: On entering your poems in competition,” by Kurt Heintz
You Do It Because You Love It,” by S.A. Griffin

Poetry is yours!

Poetry is what you make it, if you like the way you wrote it, it feels good to you, then you have a great poem. Write what you feel, what you see and what you know, the rest will flow after that.
Experts on poetry have so many do's and don'ts.....forget that, you can write what is in your heart and even get it published. Just stick to what feels right for you and you will be just fine.!
Besides if it doesn't work as a poem, turn it into a song....that how the best songs come aboutPlease Read -Disclaimer
